Company History
A mold was constructed, based on the original firewall insulator, which was still in very good condition in the car. I duplicated the original using a fiberglass material, located the exact site of each of the holes, and made sure the felt insulation was the correct thickness. I then hand sewed the rubber carpet skirt and trim along the edges just as meticulously as the factory. Reusing the original mounting bolts, the new firewall was installed (see deletes). Today, a medium embossed leather grained ABS plastic is used for our firewall production. However, "Old #1” is still in the car and looks as good as the day it was made, twenty-four years ago. Friends and fellow-hobbyist spread the word, and soon I was duplicating firewalls for many makes and models, using the same process I developed for my own car. The hobby turned into a business, and we now make nearly 600 firewall insulators, truck headliners, heater plenums, glove boxes and other specialty parts for antique, classic, custom and street rod cars and trucks built between 1928 and 1986. Today, there several companies making firewall insulation products for automobiles and trucks. What sets us apart from our competitors is the molding process. Each of our firewall products is made from an out-of-the-car original and guaranteed to fit the contours of your firewall just like the original. Our process requires time to construct a mold and produce a quality product. Our competitors use a cheap die-cutting process on standard upholstery weather board and leave you the task of "warping" it over the engine sit-back hump. The result is a unsatisfactory installation, ineffective noise and heat control and an inferior cosmetic appearance. Over the years our customers have asked us for recommendations on automotive acoustic and insulation materials. We now supply the hobby with automotive acoustic materials and have our own product line called AcoustiSHIELD. While our name has changed from Firewall Insulators to QuietRide Solutions as we have expanded our product line, we have never given up on quality and craftsmanship. The business has remained small, but successful, with 100 percent customer satisfaction. Most of our sales are through a network of antique auto restoration and street rod parts dealers, representing all makes and models of vehicles, serving customers throughout the United States, Canada and Western Europe. |
