The hood insulator serves two purposes: first, it reduces the amount of noise and vibration of the expansive pieces of sheet metal that make up a typical hood; secondly, it reduces noise generated by the engine. The high-tech heat shield used under the hood is for those vehicles where heat and noise reduction efficiency are prime issues and appearance is secondary.
